Wish U All a very Happy Karthigai Deepam…!!!
Let this festival of Deepam (lights ) brings us brightened and enlightened life like the light of Lamps.
Karthigai Deepam is a Hindu festival, celebrated on the full moon day of the Karthigai month. It is also considered as the extension of the Diwali festival. On this day, people clean the houses.
In the evening, they draw rangoli kolams in front of the house and also place some lamps on it. The earthen lamps ( Agal ) are placed in the pooja and lighted. Then the Deeparathana is done and the lamps are moved to different places in the house.
The beautiful lamps are arranged near the doors, windows and also in the balconies in rows. In this way, we celebrate Karthigai Deepam festival for three days.
The lighted lamps looks divine and auspicious. It is believed to ward off evil forces and wish us prosperity and joy.
This festival is celebrated in special manner in Thiruvannamalai. Lord Shiva takes the form of a Jyothi ( light of fire ) on the hill of Thiruvannamalai. So, this festival is also known as Annamalai Deepam.
Here, in the evening a special torch is lighted on the top of the hill and it is believed that Lord Shiva’s jyothi will be visible on this day. Hindu devotees visit this temple, to pray and offer Lord Shiva.
Nei Appam, Pidi Kozhukattai, Pori Urundai, Payasam / Kheer, Verkadalai Urundai, Suyyam, Poli are some of the traditional recipes prepared during this occasion.
