Varalakshmi Vratham Recipes:

Varalakshmi vratham is just around the corner. Happy Varalakshmi Vratham to all my friends , who celebrate the festival. May Goddess fulfill all your wishes..!

This year Varalakshmi pooja falls on 16 th August. It is celebrated on the second Friday of the Shravan month as per the Hindu calendar. It is the festival celebrated to worship Goddess Lakshmi.

During this auspicious day, the goddess ( Varalakshmi ) is decorated with kalash, maavilai, turmeric , kumkum, coconut, pattu vasthiram and with ornaments. The Neivedyam is mainly steamed kozhukattais filled with sweet and savory, sweet pongal, vada, payasam, sundal, idlies made with raw rice, variety rice, rice and dhal and with fruits.

The preparations for the festival start a day before. We used to clean the house and decorate it with maakolam and maavilai thoranam. Next day, we take bath early morning and worship Goddess Lakshmi with devotion. The must for pooja are flowers, turmeric, kumkum, betal leaves and paaku.

This pooja is performed for the welfare of the husband and children along with the entire family and for the prosperity, wealth and happiness. After the pooja, we invite guests and offer them Tampoolam and Prasadam.
