How to make KFC Chicken at home:

KFC used to be one of our few favorite fast food joints. We love fried chicken. Many times we have visited KFC to savor the taste of crispy & crunchy fried chicken & wished very much to make it at home.. So naturally, I end up heading out in search of fried chicken recipe &  found this easy to make recipe..!

I tried it last week and it came out fabulous !  Now, this crisp, delicious fried chicken tenders has turned up as my kids favorite..:)

If you want to bring  KFC  chicken  at  home,  this is the yummy recipe & trust me its finger licking good..!

Ingredients:

  • Chicken pieces with skin                       - ½ kg
  • Eggs                                                    - 2
  • Milk                                                      - 2 to 3 tbsp
  • All purpose flour / Maida                          - 2 cups
  • Garlic pwd                                            - 2 tsp
  • Onion pwd                                            - 2 to 3 tsp
  • Paprika pwd                                          - 1 tsp
  • Pepper pwd                                          - ¼ tsp
  • Bread crumbs                                       - 2 tbsp
  • Crushed Oats                                        - 2 tbsp
  • Oil                                                        - to fry
  • Salt to taste

To marinate:

  • Lemon juice                             - 1 tbsp
  • Red chilly pwd                          - ½ tsp
  • Pepper pwd                              - ½ tsp
  • Salt                                          - ½ tsp

Method:

  1. Wash & clean the chicken pieces. ( dont remove the skin )
  2. Pat dry using paper towel & keep it aside.
  3. Prepare marinade with the given ingredients.
  4. Add chicken pieces to the marinade and turn to coat.
  5. Marinate for 1 to 2 hrs.
  6. In a bowl, beat the eggs,  pour the milk and whisk... till a smooth mixture is obtained, set it aside.

  1. In a plate or bowl stir,  plain flour , garlic pwd, onion pwd, red chilly pwd/ paprika, pepper pwd, bread crumbs, crushed oats & salt until well mixed.

  1. Take a piece of chicken, add to the flour mixture & cover the chicken with it.

  1. Now dip in the whisked egg mixture.

  1. And then again back into the flour mixture.

  1. Shake off the excess flour and keep aside.
  1. Repaeat the same dipping & covering process for all chicken pieces till they’re generously coated.

  1. Meanwhile heat oil in a wide skillet.
  2. Add 4 to 5 pieces of chicken and deep fry in hot oil.

  1. Take care not to crowd pieces.

  1. Turn the flame to low medium and fry chicken until it turns golden brown.
  1. Turn over the pieces gently, every few minutes & cook to crisp.
  1. Chicken is done, when it is browned on all the sides.

  1. Remove from flame & place on kitchen tissue to drain.
  2. Repeat with remaining chicken.

  1. Homemade lipsmacking fried chicken is done..
  1. And ready to be served..!

  1. You can see the chicken is cooked crisp to edges with juicy & savory inside.

  1. Serve hot with tomato ketchp or any sauce..!

Hy Chitty BOy & Me,
thanks for stopping by..
since onion & garlic pwd are one of the prime ingredients of this recipe to enhance taste & crispness, we cant substitute any other ingredient for this. In addition to this, we can add crushed oats to flour mixture ..do giv a try ..:)

Javelin Warrior said...

This looks delicious Jay and I love fried chicken - just made some recently for the first time. Did you add anything to the flour besides spices to give it more texture? It looks like there's some sort of crumb on the outside a little like Panko crumbs. Anyway, looks wonderfully crispy...

That looks finger licking good indeed!

I have always wondered how the chicken pieces can become so crispy and now after seeing your post, I am sure I can do it on my own, esp the step by step sharing.

Looks so wonderful and sinful with the skin on but who cares when its so delicious and its ok to be sinful once a while.

This looks delicious. My husband LOVES KFC, and we both love Nathan's. Looks so good. I give you so much credit for making chicken at home, I'll eat it, but I'm weird about handling it at home.

Fried chicken at home is always healthier if you use the right kind of oil. This recipe doesn't look greasy at all. I just could eat a plate of it right now and it's not even 10 am. Great job and lovely post!

OMG, Jay, I'm salivating now! I've just booked marked a fried chicken recipe in the morning & is planning to take action in the next 2 weeks & now I saw your version of the fried chicken! Generally, the types of the seasonings are very much similar to the ones that I'm planning to make & I bought a small container of curry powder back this afternoon & also planning to add in some smoked paprika, because I have it in my kitchen, why not using it? Let me study your recipe again & come out with my version. Thanks for sharing this!

By the way, the skin of the chicken looks so crispy! I'm surprised that you don't need breadcrumbs in making this dish! Yum!
