Pepper Rasam

Print Friendly and PDF

Pepper Rasam:

Pepper Rasam also called as Milagu Rasam is an authentic recipe of South India.  I learnt this recipe from my Mom. It is a type of spicy hot soup, that is usually eaten with cooked rice. It is very tasty, easy to prepare and good for health. A cup of hot rasam helps to relieve common cold, sore throat and loss of appetite.  Pepper helps the body to be active, healthy and alert. This rasam tastes heavenly, after heavy food like Non-Veg Biryanis. Enjoy the recipe of spicy pepper rasam here..:)

  • Pepper                                     - 2 tbsp
  • Red chilly                                - 1 or 2

  6. Add the above coarse pwd, stir completely.
  7. Heat a tsp of ghee in a pan, temper with mustard, asafetida, split urad dal and curry leaves.
  8. Add above prepared rasam and allow to boil in low heat.
  9. Once the first bubble starts appearing, turn off the flame.
  10. Add freshly chopped coriander leaves and cover it with a lid.
  11. The secret of hot pepper rasam, lies in the removal of rasam from heat, once it starts to bubble.

  15. Hy Nisha,

As we use 2 tbsp of pepper, the hot spicy taste of pepper will be toned down by the addition of 2 tbsp of cumin seeds. And the strong aroma of cumin enhances the taste and helps in quick digestion...You can adjust the quantity as per your taste..:)

  26. After a lot of cookery accidents on the net, i go for a safer technique now and which is to go by the image of a curry than just the recipe. I must say your image of the Rasam (out of many i browsed through on Google Images) looked like the perfect Rasam and I am not disappointed at all!

    Well done you!
