Butter Chicken 

Here comes the heavenly delicious most popular Indian restaurant dish Butter Chicken masala recipe. This creamy chicken gravy tastes mildly spicy with a rich flavor of butter. No doubt this addictive dish is a favorite of kids as well as adults & hugely popular all around the world. It makes a divine combo with roti, naan, paratha or even rice dishes and we prefer to make this yummy recipe for weeknight dinners.   • Chicken pieces - 1/2 kg

To marinate

  • Curd / Yoghurt - 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli pwd - 1 tsp
  • Coriander pwd - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste

To make gravy

  • Butter - 2 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli - 1 or 2
  • Onions sliced - 1 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Tomatoes sliced - 1 & 1/2 cups
  • Cashewnuts - 10
  • Sliced mint & coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
  • Turmeric pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh cream - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste


  1. Clean and wash the chicken.
  2. Drain water thoroughly.
  3. Take the chicken in a mixing bowl.
  4. Add curd, turmeric pwd, red chilli pwd, coriander pwd, salt, garam masala pwd to the mixing bowl.
  5. Mix well and coat the chicken thoroughly with the masala.
  6. Let it marinate for minimum 30 mins.
  7. Melt butter in frypan.
  8. Add the marinated chicken and roast in low flame for 10 mins.
  9. Flip the chicken and roast it for another 10 mins in low medium flame.
  10. Now you can see the chicken is 3/4 th cooked.
  11. Drain & set aside.
  12. Heat oil in fry pan.
  13. Add cumin seeds and wait to splutter.
  14. Add green chilli, sliced onions, salt and toss until light brown.
  15. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute.
  16. Add sliced tomato and cook until soft.
  17. Add cashew nuts and saute.
  18. Add sliced mint and coriander leaves.
  19. Toss good and turn off flame.
  20. Add to blender and grind to smooth paste without adding water.
  21. Melt butter in frypan.
  22. Add the masala paste from blender.
  23. Add turmeric pwd, red chilli pwd, coriander pwd, garam masala pwd and mix.
  24. Add 1 cup of water and stir.
  25. Allow to boil.
  26. Now add the butter roasted chicken pieces and stir.
  27. Cook covered until the chicken is cooked tender and done.
  28. Add fresh cream and stir.
  29. Add a tsp of butter and turn off flame.
  30. Sprinkle dried fenugreek leaves and finely chopped fresh coriander leaves.
  31. Transfer to serving bowl.
  32. Flavorful butterly delicious butter chicken is ready.
  33. Garnish with fresh cream and serve hot.
  34. It makes a perfect side dish along with roti, chapati, naan, paratha & also with fried rice, noodles, biryani etc.
