  • Chicken - 1/2 kg
  • Onion - 2
  • Tomato - 3
  • Yoghurt - 3 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin - 1/2 tsp
  • Bay leaf - 2
  • Cinnamon - 2
  • Cardamom - 1
  • Cloves - 4
  • Star anise - 1
  • Green chilly - 1
  • Turmeric pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Red Chilly pwd - 2 tsp
  • Coriander pwd - 3 tsp
  • Pepper pwd - 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh lemon juice - few drops
  • Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste


  1. Clean and wash the chicken.
  2. Add it to mixing bowl, add turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd, ginger garlic paste, salt and yoghurt.
  3. Add finely sliced onion and tomato.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Transfer to pressure cooker. Add 1/2 cup water and mix.
  6. Pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  7. Once the pressure goes off, mix the contents and set aside.
  8. Heat oil in a pan.
  9. Add cumin and wait to splutter.
  10. Add bayleaf, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and star anise.
  11. Allow to crackle.
  12. Add green chilly and finely sliced onions.
  13. Saute till golden.
  14. Add turmeric pwd, pepper pwd, red chilly flakes, coriander pwd, cumin pwd and cinnamon pwd.
  15. Mix well.
  16. Add the cooked chicken along with masala.
  17. Stir good.
  18. Taste and adjust salt and seasonings.
  19. Boil until the masala thickens.
  20. Once the curry is thick, turn the flame to low and roast the chicken.
  21. Stir once in a while to ensure the chicken is roasted evenly on all sides.
  22. Sprinkle garam masala pwd.
  23. Squeeze fresh lemon juice and turn off flame.
  24. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  25. Lipsmacking delicious dry chicken sukka is ready.
  26. We enjoyed it hot with veg biryani..!
  27. It makes an excellent combo with fried rice, biryani, roti, naan etc.

  • Urad dal - 2 cups
  • Green chilly - 2
  • Sliced onions - 1/4 cup
  • Chopped curry & coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
  • Hing / asafetida (perungayam) - a generous pinch
  • Rice flour - 1 tbsp
  • Crushed peppercorns - 1/2 tsp
  • Grated ginger - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to deep fry


  1. Wash & soak urad dal for 2 hours.
  2. Drain water completely.
  3. Add it to blender. Add salt and green chilly.
  4. Grind to smooth paste by adding few tsps of water.
  5. Transfer to mixing bowl.
  6. Add grated ginger, finely sliced curry & coriander leaves, rice flour, hing and onions.
  7. Mix well.
  8. Heat oil in fry pan.
  9. Wet hands with water and take a small ball out of the batter.
  10. Pat it flat and make a small hole in it.
  11. Drop it carefully in hot oil.
  12. Repeat the same with the remaining batter.
  13. Take care not to overcrowd the oil with vadas.
  14. Keep the flame in medium and flip the vadas to ensure its cooked evenly on both sides.
  15. Once the vadas turn crisp and golden on both sides, drain in kitchen tissue.
  16. Crispy delicious Medu Vadas are ready.
  17. It pairs up excellent with chutneys and sambar.
  18. Enjoy hot.

Recently we went on a family vacation to Georgia, Europe. As we ride across the country, there are plenty of eye-catchy beauty, colorful mix of charms, fascinating bits of culture, history & arts, ancient churches with mesmerizing architecture, along with plenty of trekking, boating, cruises, etc. The Georgian cuisine is quite delicious & an expression of their culture. We loved the taste of their popular khinkali, khachapuri, flavored breads, etc.

Appam Recipe

Appam Recipe 

Here goes the ever popular dish Appam recipe from South India. Its a soft & spongy pancake with crispy delicious edges. It is prepared with rice and dal. It is very easy to prepare this healthy dish. Its our favorite breakfast menu and it makes an excellent combo with vegetable stew, coconut milk, paya or any spicy curry. Try this simple video recipe and let me know how it came out.

  • Raw rice - 1 cup
  • Par boiled or boiled rice - 1 cup
  • Urad dal - 3 tbsp
  • Toor dal - 1/2  tbsp
  • Yellow moong dal - 1/2 tbsp
  • Vendayam (fenugreek) pwd - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to drizzle


  1. Wash and soak raw rice, par boiled rice, toor dal and moongdal in water.
  2. Let it soak overnight or for minimum 6 hours
  3. Drain the water and add the ingredients to blender.
  4. Add little water and grind to smooth batter.
  5. Add salt and fenugreek pwd.
  6. Mix well and allow to ferment overnight or for 6 hours.
  7. You can see the batter is well raised after fermentation.
  8. Add enough water and mix the batter well.
  9. The batter consistency is very important in getting spongy appam.
  10. The consistency shouldn't be very thick or watery. It should be like as shown in video.
  11. Heat the appam pan.
  12. Grease it with oil.
  13. Once the pan is hot, simmer the flame and add 2 ladles of batter.
  14. Rotate in pan in circles so that the batter is spread uniformly in the edges of the pan.
  15. Add oil and cover the pan with lid.
  16. Allow to cook for 2 mins.
  17. Once the appam is done with crispy laces, take from pan.
  18. Soft n spongy appam with crisp edges is ready.
  19. It combines excellent with paya, spicy curry and with coconut milk.
  20. Enjoy hot.

Today I'm sharing with you a rich gourmet food of South Indian cuisine. Its one of the popular Non-vegetarian delicacies due to its delicious taste and nourishment. Its prepared from attukal ie. goat leg or lamb's feet. This spicy curry can be prepared very easily in pressure cooker. In this recipe the legs of lamb is cooked along with flavorful spices into thick soup. Try this authentic dish at your home with this simple video recipe.

  • Attukal / Mutton leg pieces - 15 to 20
  • Onion - 3
  • Tomato - 3
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilly pwd - 3 tsp
  • Coriander pwd - 2 tsp
  • Bay leaf - 2
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Saunf - 1/2 tsp
  • Peppercorns - 1/2 tsp
  • Thick coconut paste - 1 small cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves


  1. Clean & wash attukal (mutton leg pieces)
  2. Drain water completely and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in cooker.
  4. Add onions and toss till golden.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste and saute until raw smell disappears.
  6. Add sliced tomatoes and fry for 2 mins or until tomatoes turn soft and cooked.
  7. Add attukal (mutton leg pieces) and mix well.
  8. Add turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd and coriander pwd.
  9. Stir the masala well.
  10. Add enough water and combine.
  11. Close the cooker with lid and pressure cook.
  12. Let the flame be in high for 5 whistles and simmer the flame for 15 to 20 mins.
  13. Once the pressure is gone, mix the contents well.
  14. Check if the mutton leg pieces are cooked and done.
  15. Add salt and mix.
  16. Let the gravy along with mutton rest for overnight or minimum 4 hours.
  17. This enhances the flavor & taste of attukal curry / paya.
  18. Grate coconut to small pieces.
  19. Add it to blender.
  20. Add water and grind to thick smooth paste.
  21. Keep it aside.
  22. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a frypan.
  23. Add bayleaf, cumin and saunf.
  24. Add curry leaves and wait to splutter.
  25. Turn off flame and add it to gravy.
  26. Add coconut paste and mix well.
  27. Allow the gravy to boil for few minutes and turn off flame.
  28. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  29. Authentic delicious Attukal Paya / Mutton leg curry is ready.
  30. Makes a lipsmacking combo with idly, dosa, idiyappam, chapati, etc.

Here goes the quick & irresistable restaurant style Kadai paneer recipe. Its a semi dry gravy version and our most favorite combo for veg biryani, fried rice & with rotis. This most popular paneer dish is prepared with cottage cheese, capsicum, tomato, onion that are cooked with traditional Indian spices. The gravy tastes very flavorful and delicious & an opt recipe to satiate your hunger pangs for dinner.

  • Paneer - 200 g
  • Onion - 2
  • Tomato - 3
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Butter - 2 tbsp
  • Sliced ginger & garlic - 1 tbsp
  • Green chilly - 2
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Cloves - 4
  • Cinnamon - 1
  • Cardamom - 1
  • Star anise - 1
  • Cubed red & green bell peppers (capsicum) - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly pwd - 1 & 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander pwd - 2 tsp
  • Cumin pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves


  1. Wash and slice paneer to fine cubes.
  2. Heat oil in a frypan.
  3. Add onions and toss till golden.
  4. Add tomatoes and cook to soft.
  5. Add sliced ginger and garlic and saute for a minute.
  6. Turn off flame and allow to cool.
  7. Add to blender and grind to fine paste.
  8. Set it aside.
  9. Melt butter in pan.
  10. Add the sliced paneer cubes and saute to golden.
  11. Remove and set aside.
  12. Heat oil / butter in frypan.
  13. Add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and star anise.
  14. Wait to splutter.
  15. Add green chilly and cubed onions.
  16. Toss for a minute.
  17. Now add cubed red and green bell peppers / capsicum.
  18. Stir for few seconds and add the freshly ground masala paste. (step 8)
  19. Mix well.
  20. Add turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd and salt.
  21. Add coriander pwd, cumin pwd and garam masala pwd.
  22. Add little water and allow the masala to cook.
  23. Once the curry reaches the desired consistency, add the paneer cubes.
  24. Sprinkle dried kasoori methi leaves.
  25. Turn off flame.
  26. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  27. Lipsmacking colorful delicious Kadai Paneer is ready.

  • Mutton chops pieces - 1/2 kg
  • Onion - 2
  • Tomato - 2
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Saunf pwd - 1/2 tsp
  • Bay leaf - 2
  • Chopped mint & coriander leaves - handful
  • Turmeric pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly pwd - 2 tsp
  • Pepper pwd - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste


  1. Clean and wash the mutton chops pieces.
  2. Drain water and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Add saunf pwd and bay leaf.
  5. Wait to splutter.
  6. Add sliced onions and saute until light brown.
  7. Add ginger garlic paste and toss for a minute.
  8. Add finely sliced fresh coriander and mint leaves.
  9. Add sliced tomatoes and cook until its done.
  10. Add turmeric pwd and mix.
  11. Add mutton chops pieces and stir.
  12. Add pepper pwd, salt, red chilly pwd and coriander pwd.
  13. Give a quick stir so that the pieces are completely coated with masala.
  14. Now transfer the contents to pressure cooker and add 1/2 cup water.
  15. Pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles or until the mutton is cooked.
  16. Heat a tsp of oil in frypan.
  17. Add curry leaves and toss.
  18. Add the cooked mutton chops along with masala.
  19. Cook in medium flame until the masala thickens to desired gravy consistency.
  20. Taste and adjust salt and seasonings.
  21. Turn off flame.
  22. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  23. Transfer to serving plate.
  24. Delicious Mutton chops masala is ready.
  25. Enjoy hot with steamed rice or with roti, chapati, naan, etc.

sweet pidi kozhukattai

Pidi Kozhukattai 

Sweet pidi kozhukattai or inippu pidi kozhukattai is very simple to prepare yet tastes divine. It is an authentic neivedyam dish prepared for Vinayakar chaturthi. Its my favorite snack since my childhood and my mom prepares it at least once in a week for breakfast or after school snack for us.   • Idiyappam maavu / raw rice flour - 2 cups
  • Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Coconut and cashew pieces - 2 tbsp
  • Moongdal - 2 tbsp
  • Jaggery powdered - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Elaichi / cardamom pwd - a pinch


  1. Heat ghee in frypan.
  2. Add coconut and cashew bits and roast to golden.
  3. Drain it and set aside.
  4. Add the Idiyappam flour / raw rice flour and roast for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Take it aside.
  6. Now add moongdal and roast till golden.
  7. Add hot water and cook the moongdal.
  8. Once the moongdal is half cooked turn off the flame.
  9. Now in a pan, add the powdered jaggery.
  10. Add 1 cup water and heat the jaggery to syrup.
  11. Once its completely dissolved in water, strain and add it to moongdal.
  12. Stir well.
  13. Add rice flour little by little with constant stirring.
  14. Once it forms a thick dough, turn off flame.
  15. Add ghee, roasted coconut and cashew pieces.
  16. Combine well.
  17. Add grated coconut, cardamom pwd and stir.
  18. Once the dough cools, grease hands with oil and make it to small balls.
  19. Now take one ball and roll it to lengthwise.
  20. Press it gently to form impression as shown in video to pidi kozhukattai shape.
  21. Place the kozhukattais in greased idly plates.
  22. Steam cook for 10 mins.
  23. Lipsmacking healthy delicious Pidi kozhukattais are ready.
  24. Enjoy hot as tea time snack or lunch box menu.

  • Chickpeas / kondakadalai - 2 cups
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Mustard - 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin - 1/4 tsp
  • Split urad dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilly - 1 or 2
  • Sliced onions - 1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Cumin pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Hing / Asafetida / perungayam - a pinch
  • Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Red chilly flakes - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash and soak Chickpeas in water for overnight or minimum 6 hours.
  2. Drain the water and add the chickpeas to cooker.
  3. Add salt and enough water to it.
  4. Pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles or until the chickpeas are cooked soft.
  5. Heat oil in a frypan.
  6. Add mustard, cumin, split urad dal, slit green chilly and curry leaves.
  7. Allow to splutter.
  8. Add sliced onions and saute till golden.
  9. Add cumin pwd, hing, red chilly flakes and saute.
  10. Add the cooked chickpeas.
  11. Give a good stir so that the masala is coated well on the sundal.
  12. Add grated coconut and turn off the flame.
  13. Sprinkle freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  14. Lipsmacking delicious masala sundal is ready.
  15. Enjoy warm
  16. Makes a healthy tea time snack for kids and adults alike.

Modhagam / Modaks / Kozhukattai / Purnam Kozhukattai - Video Recipe

Purnam Kozhukattai

Purnam Kozhukattai is a delicious dish prepared during Ganesh Chathurthi for offering neivedyam for Lord Ganesh. It is a very popular South Indian festival sweet prepared with rice flour, jaggery and coconut stuffing. Also it makes a healthy tea time snack. My mil prepares varieties of kozhukattais like pidi kozhukattai, kara kozhukattai, etc. Lets see how to prepare this delicious sweet with this easy video recipe.

For outer dough

  • Idiyappam flour / raw rice flour - 2 cups
  • Oil  - 2 tsp
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - 1& 1/2 cups

For Inner stuffing:

  • Cashew nuts - 7 to 8
  • Grated coconut pieces - 1/2 cup
  • Powdered jaggery - 3/4 cup
  • Cardamom / elaichi pwd - 1/4 tsp
  • Sesame seeds - 1/4 cup
  • Fried gram / pottukadalai - 1/4 cup


To prepare outer stuffing

  1. Clean and seive the idiyappam flour / raw rice flour to remove any lumps.
  2. Heat water in a bowl.
  3. Add 2 tsp of oil and 1/4 tsp of salt to it.
  4. Once it starts boiling, pour it in mixing bowl.
  5. Add raw rice little by little with continous stirring.
  6. Once it forms soft dough, stop adding raw rice.
  7. Knead the dough to smooth consistency.
  8. Cover it and let it rest for 5 mins.
  9. Outer stuffing is ready.

To prepare Inner stuffing:

  1. Meanwhile lets prepare purnam / inside stuffing.
  2. In a blender add cashewnuts, fried gram, coconut, sesame and elaichi pwd.
  3. Grind to coarse pwd. Now add jaggery.
  4. Blend well.
  5. Transfer to bowl. Inner stuffing ( Purnam ) ready.
  6. Make it to small balls.

To prepare Kozhukattai:

  1. Make small balls / lemon sized balls out of the outer dough.
  2. Grease oil in hands.
  3. Take one ball and pat it flat.
  4. Now place one purnam ball inside it and seal it to modak shape.
  5. Repeat the same until all the kozhukattais are shaped.
  6. Now grease idly plate with oil.
  7. Place the modaks and steam cook for 10 mins.
  8. Yummy delicious Purnam kozhukattais are ready.
  9. Enjoy hot. It makes a healthy evening snack for kids and adults alike.
