Chicken Manchurian / Indo - Chinese dish

Today, I am going to share here is the part of the Indo – Chinese Cuisine. Chicken Manchurian is a famous party appetizer that is very easy to prepare. It is very delicious & loved by all at my home. After a couple of trials, I settled with this easiest & yummiest recipe of Chicken Manchurian.
In this recipe, boneless chicken pieces are marinated in exotic spices and deep fried in oil and then cooked in spicy hot sauce. It makes a best combo with  fried rice . Also it can be served as main course dish or snacks.
Try this tasty , all time favorite Indo – Chinese dish & enjoy ..:)
For Marination:
  • Chicken boneless                                  - ½ kg
  • All purpose flour                                   - 2 tbsp
  • Corn flour                                             - 2 tbsp
  • Egg                                                      - 1
  • Lime juice / vinegar                                - ¼ tsp
  • Salt as required
For Manchurian:
  • Onion finely chopped                            - 1 cup
  • Green chilly  slit lengthwise                    - 1
  • Ginger garlic paste                                - 1 tbsp
  • Soy sauce                                            - 1 ½ tbsp
  • Chilly sauce                                          - 1 tbsp
  • Tomato ketchup                                     - 2 tbsp
  • Sugar                                                   - 1 tsp
  • Food color                                            - a pinch
  • Chicken stock                                        - ¼ cup
  • Spring onions chopped                           - for garnishing
  • Oil to fry                                  
  1. In a mixing bowl, add all purpose flour, egg, corn flour, lime juice / vinegar and salt.
  2. Mix well and marinate the chicken for 1 hour.
  1. Heat oil in a kadai or pan and fry the marinated chicken until it is well tender.
  1. Take cake not to overcook, as the chicken will turn hard ( if fried perfectly, the chicken will be soft & juicy )
  2. Drain and reserve the fried chicken pieces in kitchen tissue.
  1. Heat 2 tsp oil in a fry pan.
  2. Add onion and saute till transculent.
  3. Add green chilly, chopped spring onion, ginger garlic paste and saute in low flame till raw smell disappears.
  4. Now add soy sauce, chilly sauce, tomato ketchup, food color, sugar and chicken stock.
  5. Stir well and bring it to a boil.
  1. Add fried chicken pieces to it.
  2. Combine and slow cook till all the sauce is fully absorbed with the chicken.
  3. Check for salt & seasonings.
  1. Simmer for few minutes.
  2. Once the contents attains thick stage, transfer it to a serving bowl.
  3. Garnish with chopped spring onions.
  1. Yummy & tempting chicken Manchurian dry is  ready to relish.
If you prefer to have  chicken Manchurian gravy  as side to chapathi or rotis, mix 1 tbsp of corn flour with water and add this paste in step 13 and allow to cook for few minutes. This will give you tasty gravy.

Spicy Peanut Chutney ( Groundnut Chutney / Mungfali Ki Chutney )

Peanut or Groundnut chutney makes a great accompaniment for many South Indian dishes like dosa / idli / samosa, pakoda or other fried snacks..!
It tastes fiery and easy to make. It just takes less than five minutes to cook .
Try out this delicious yet simple recipe of Peanut Chutney...!
  • Grated coconut                         - ½ cup
  • Roasted peanuts                       - 1 cup
  • Tamarind                                   - a little
  • Red chilly                                  - 2 or 3
  • Oil                                            - 1 tsp
  • Mustard                                    - ¼ tsp
  • Cumin                                       - ¼ tsp
  • Split urad dal                            - ¼ tsp
  • Asafetida                                  - a pinch
  • Curry leaves                              - a few
  • Salt to taste
  1. Grind the grated coconut pieces to fine shreds.
  2. Add roasted peanuts, tamarind, salt, red chilly along with salt and a half cup of water.
  3. Blend  all the ingredients in a blender / mixer to a smooth paste.
  4. Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
  5. Heat oil in a pan for seasoning.
  6. Once hot, add mustard, cumin seeds, red chilly, split urad dal and let it turn golden brown.
  7. Add the curry leaves, asafetida pwd and turn off heat.
  8. Pour over chutney & mix well.
  1. Serve hot with spongy idly & golden crisp dosa.

Crispy Onion Uttapam / Hot favorite breakfast among Dosa Lovers !

Here’s a delicious, tempting recipe that can be enjoyed as a healthy breakfast or as a main dish.  These are thick , crispy pancakes prepared from a combination of fermented batter, golden roasted onions & other spices.
This sizzling hot onion dosa or uttapam is very simple and easy to make. My children love this spicy taste and I will make it regularly. 
It makes an awesome combo with coconut chutneygreen chutneysambar. 
Try this classical South Indian dish & enjoy your  meal..:)
  • Dosa batter                              - 2 cups
  • Onion                                       - 2
  • Oil                                            - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard                                    - ¼ tsp
  • Asafetida pwd                           - a pinch
  • Cumin                                       - ¼ tsp
  • Split urad dal                            - ½ tsp
  • Chana dal                                 - 1 tsp
  • Red chilly                                  - 1 or 2
  • Curry leaves                              - 6 or 7
  • Cashew nuts                             - 4 to 5
  • Coriander leaves          
  • Salt to taste
To prepare Dosa Batter:
  1. Wash & soak 3 cups of rice & 1 cup of urad dal in separate bowls for 5 to 6 hrs.
  2. Soak a tsp of methi seeds and ½ cup poha along with the rice.
  3. Grind all the ingredients to batter consistency.
  4. Add salt , mix well.
  5. Keep aside for overnight for fermentation of batter.
To prepare Uttapam:
  1. Chop onions to fine slices.
  2. Keep the skillet / girdle on a medium flame, smear oil all over.
  3. Temper with mustard, asafetida pwd, cumin, split urad dal, chana dal, red chilly & finely chopped curry leaves.
  4. Wait to splutter.
  5. Add chopped onion, saute for a minute.
  6. Add grated cashews and saute further.
  1. Transfer this to the batter.
  2. Add freshly chopped coriander leaves & mix well.
  1. Take a ladle full of batter and spread over the skillet.
  2. The thickness should be like a pan cake.
  1. Drizzle oil on all sides and allow it to cook until the other side turns crisp & golden brown in color.
  1. Gently flip the uttapam to other side and allow to cook.
  2. Take out the uttapam from the skillet.

  1. Serve hot immediately before it looses its crispiness.
  1. Makes a delicious combo with  coconut chutneygreen chutney.
