Aloo Bonda / Tea Time Snacks / A Quick Indian Snack

Aloo bonda is a very tasty, crispy & spicy chat. This is one of the popular Indian snacks served in parties, functions,etc, which can satisy most palates. Also this makes a perfect holiday snack menu for kids.
It is very simple to make and delicious to eat during evening coffee or tea time. This delicious snack recipe is made of mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chilly and dipped in spicy batter & then deep fried till crisp.
Here goes the recipe of tasty & simple snack loved by all.
Ingredients for outer layer:
  • Besan flour                   -  2 cups
  • Rice flour                      - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric pwd                - ¼ tsp
  • Red chilly pwd              - 1 tsp
  • Hing                             - a pinch
  • Cooking soda               - a pinch
  • Salt to taste
For potato stuffing:
  • Potatoes                       -  2 medium size
  • Peas                             - ¼ cup
  • Oil                                - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard                        - ¼ tsp
  • Cumin                           - ¼ tsp
  • Split urad dal                - ¼ tsp
  • Hing                             - a pinch
  • Onion                           - 1
  • Green chilly                   - 1
  • Ginger grated                - ½ tsp
  • Turmeric pwd                - a pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry
Lets Begin:
To make Outer Layer:
  1. Take a wide bowl.
  2. Mix  besan flour, rice flour, turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd, hing,cooking soda and salt.
  3. Add little water and make a smooth paste of it.
  4. The batter should not be too thick or watery, it should be in medium thickness (dosa batter) consistency, so that it can be coated over potato balls.
  5. Now the batter ( bonda mix )  is ready for the outer layer.
Lets see the preparation of inner stuffing:
  1. Wash and boil the potatoes and smash it.
  2. Cook  the peas and keep it ready.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Add mustard, cumin, split urad dal and hing.
  5. Once it splutters, add the chopped onion and fry till golden.
  6. Add green chillies, coriander leaves, ginger and saute further.
  7. Now add turmeric pwd, smashed potatoes, peas and salt.
  8. Combine well and cook for 3 to 4 mins.
  1. Remove from flame and allow to cool.
  2. Make small lemon sized balls out of it.
  1. Heat oil in a fry pan.
  2. Dip the balls in the prepared bonda mix.
  1. Drop them in hot oil.
  2. Fry in medium flame.
  3. Turn it to other side, deep fry till golden brown.
  1. Drain it from oil and place it in kitchen tissue.
  2. Repeat the same for remaining balls.
  3. Tempting Aloo Bonda ready to taste.
  1. Enjoy them hot with tomato ketchup or coconut chutney.

Mutton Soup / Hearty recipe for cold wintery days..!

Today, I am going to share with you a simple, healthy & tasty mutton soup recipe…! 
This hearty soup warms up the coldest wintery days as it is a very good remedy for common cold & cough.. Also this thin & light soup makes a fine & refreshing start for the main meal. 
In this recipe, the mutton / lamb pieces are cooked with lots of seasonings till tender The spicy hot taste will make you to prepare again & again and even kids will love it.
Try this delicious recipe today...:)
  • Mutton pieces ( Bones )                         - 8 to 10
  • Ginger                                                  - small piece
  • Garlic                                                    - 3 pods
  • Onion                                                   - 1
  • Tomato                                                 - 1
  • Toor dal                                                - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric pwd                                        - a pinch
  • Cumin pwd                                            - ½ tsp
  • Coriander pwd                                       - 1 tsp
  • Pepper pwd                                          - 1 ½  tsp
  • Fresh mint & cilantro leaves                   - handful
  • Oil                                                        - ½ tsp
  • Fennel seed pwd                                   - ¼ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  1. Wash and clean mutton bony pieces.
  2. For soup, mutton bone must be more than the mutton flesh. ( this gives good taste & aroma to soup )
  3. Crush ginger & garlic coarsely.
  4. In a pressure cooker,  add meat, onion, tomato, crushed ginger garlic, toor dal, turmeric pwd, cumin pwd, coriander pwd and salt.
  5. Add 3 to 4 cups of water and pressure cook it for 4 whistles.
  6. Simmer for 8 to 10 mins.
  7. The mutton should be cooked tender, so adjust the cooking time according to the mutton you will get in your place.
  8. Open lid, after pressure settles.
  9. Smash the contents.
  10. Add pepper pwd, mint and cilantro leaves.
  11. Mean while heat oil in a pan.
  12. Add fennel seed pwd and saute for few seconds.
  13. Add to mutton soup.
  14. Bring it to a boil.
  15. Serve steaming hot in a serving bowl.
  1. Healthy & tasty mutton soup ready to enjoy.
