Iniya Tamizh Puthandu Nalvazhthukkal:


Today, 14th April of 2014 is Chithiral Thirunaal, Tamil Puthandu or better known as Tamil New Year. It is the celebration of first day of the Tamil New Year. On this special occasion, Tamil people greet each other by saying "  Tamizh Puthandu or Iniya Puthandu Vazhthukkal."

On this day, people wake up early in the morning and take bath. They decorate the entrance of the house with beautiful kolam / rangoli.







People make pooja at home. They offer sweet pongal, vadai, payasam / kheer and all types of fruits to God.  














Also, people used to prepare feast with different varieties of food and share them with relatives and friends. 



















Neem flowers and raw mangoes are considered very important on this day. People used to prepare Neem flower rasam and raw mango pachadi in their menu.
